father junipero serra is a legendary figure in california. he's the franciscan missionary who founded the chain of 15 missions up & down the calif. coast roughly around the 1770's. I've been to 3 of them, which are still beautiful to this day. what trips me out is the birkenstock- up & down the california coast in a pair of that?!?!
