(South Pasadena, Calif., United States) on 12 June 2009 in Architecture and Portfolio. where: mission san gabriel. san gabriel, calif. back in the spanish mission period (1771-1830's), this is 1 of the 4 giant brick furnace pit where the franciscan monks cooked tallow to make soap and candles. they're about 2500 gallon in volume and about 20-feet deep. amazing all four are still in tact.
